REVOLUTION OF OLYMPUS 1878

With the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Paulopoulos and in the aftermath of the two major rallies in Thessaloniki and Athens, where hundreds of thousands of Greeks made perfectly clear that the “Macedonia is one and is Greece”, is celebrated on Saturday 24 February in Litochoro, the 140th anniversary of the Revolution of Olympus in 1878.

In 1878 in Litochoro, Greeks of Macedonia, fought against the Treaty of San Stefano, according to which the bulk of Macedonia would be annexed to Bulgaria and in favour of the union of Macedonia with the Greece. Also trying to achieve their liberation from the Ottoman Empire yoke and association with the “Mother Greece”.
