Christos Kakalos

Event in memory of the Litochorian Christos Kakalos, the first occupier of Mount Olympus, organized by the Municipality of Dion – Olympus on Thursday 21 June 2018 in the  Litohoro Park at 9.00 in the evening.

The event is taking place in the context of parallel events of the 15th Olympus Marathon  which begins on 23 June 2018, in Litochoro.
 The summer of 1913 the hunter Christos Kakalosaise was the first man who ascent to the highest peak of Mount Olympus, the “Mytika’, together with two philhellene Swiss, the legendary photographer Frederick Boissonnas and Daniel Baud -Bovy, historic art and director of the School of Fine Arts in Geneva.
From that first ascent up to the end of the life, Christos Kakalos, raised several times at the top of his favorite mountain. The last one was in 1972 at the age of 93. He died a few years later, in April 1976, at the age of 97.
From that first  historic ascent, we have a unique consignment with the first Known photographs of the region, taken by a pionner and artist of photography Swiss – born Frederic Boissonnas.
