The idyllic location “Panagia”, the highest hill, back to Hadrian’s Wall of Ancient Pieria, near the village of Kontariotissa, is built the Monastery of Saint Ephraim of Syria.
With views of the stunning beauty of Olympos, the wooded villages of Pieria, the blue shores of the thermaikos, Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki in depth, but also the Athos Mountain, the Monastery is a place of sanctuary, a place of pilgrimage, but at the same time, a paradise of natural beauty, architecture and elegance.
Thousands of pilgrims come each year to worship Panagia Virgin Mary “Life Giving” and Saint Ephraim, which is devoted to the catholicon of the monastery.
THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE NUNS
The Monastery was founded in 1983 as a female private Hideaway and two years later was officially admitted to the Holy Metropolis Kitros, Katerini, Platamona.
The Holy Monastery saw build and constantly renovated, proprietary fields, purchased by the nuns by residents in the area.
It was a daring endeavor as well as it was a barren place. Today, with the untiring efforts of the nuns, the space has been transformed into a paradise of natural beauty.
